Gable House is a self-build family home in a village on the Cambridgeshire/Peterborough border. A feature gable, at front at back, is the defining element of the house, bookending double-height living and dining spaces inside.
The ground floor accommodation includes a broken plan living arrangement, with an open plan kitchen and dining space at one end, and living room at the other. The new home will provide four bedrooms, across two floors.
Working within the constraints of a busy suburban street the new building is designed to complement the existing bungalow and neighbouring properties. A contemporary palette of buff brick, timber and black roof tiles have been selected to complement the simple, yet striking, form of the new house.
Mindful of overlooking issues, a series of roof lights are proposed to first-floor bedrooms instead of windows, ensuring that rooms are bathed in natural light while remaining private.
