Netherton United Football Club is a grassroots football club, proudly embedded in its community. Despite the difficulties of a pandemic, the club has gone from strength to strength in recent years – expanding to add new youth, girl, women’s and ability teams to its ranks.
Now, we’re supporting the club in rejuvenating its clubhouse – the beating heart of any amateur team – making it fit to meet the needs of its teams, fans and community.
As a non-profit organisation, all money that comes into the club is reinvested. Smart management by the club’s board have brought 3G playing surfaces and flood lights to club – and the clubhouse project will seek to continue the trend of smart investment.
The clubhouse currently has multiple uses, but it isn’t set up to best serve any of them. Local children completing sports science diplomas use the building as a hub – but the clubhouse isn’t established as a scholastic environment. Elsewhere, the community hires the space regularly for events – but despite having a bar and function room, the space is poorly laid out.
Together with Netherton United FC, we’re overhauling the existing clubhouse – reinventing it as a place where people can find a sense of community and family through football and feel part of something bigger.
With our revised design, the smaller of the clubhouses two halls makes way for a new kitchen space while the existing kitchen transforms to provide new WC facilities. A new office space will allow the existing office space to make way for a new women’s changing room.
Both halls will open out onto a central external space which could allow them to combine for large events. While in the smaller hall, a retractable wall will be incorporated to allow a classroom to be created for students.
